Thank you for your interest in Tuttle Publishing. Tuttle was founded in 1948 in Tokyo, Japan and Rutland, Vermont with the mission of publishing books that span the East and West. Tuttle quickly established itself as a pioneer in introducing the culture, arts, and languages of Asia to English-speaking readers. Now part of the Periplus publishing family, Tuttle continues to be a leader in the field of Asian cultures and languages and now also offers books on Asian cooking, architecture and design, martial arts, literary classics, and children's topics.
Tuttle always welcomes new book proposals for publication under the Tuttle, Periplus, and Journey imprints. We accept submissions directly from authors (including first time authors) and from literary agents.
A spirit of education informs everything we do, and we emphasize high-quality, affordable books that are rigorous enough for educational use but accessible enough for self-learners. Best-selling subject areas include language learning (we've published titles on Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese, Korean, Tagalog, Indonesian, Balinese, Lao, Thai, Hindi, Arabic, Turkish, and Spanish), literature, cooking, art, martial arts, architecture, design and decorating, religion, philosophy, and spirituality. It's helpful to familiarize yourself with our catalog and/or similar books that we publish to determine how your proposed book fits into our list.
If you wish to submit a project for consideration for publication, please send a complete book proposal consisting of:
• A cover letter describing the work as a whole, including any and all pertinent information about your
project and why you chose to submit to us.
• An annotated table of contents.
• One or two sample chapters that give a sense of the project's scope and your writing style.
• A description of the target audience for your project.
• Information about similar, related, and/or competing titles.
• A self-addressed, stamped envelope with sufficient postage for the return of your materials. Without
postage, we will not return your materials.
Tuttle is not responsible for loss or damage to material you submit, and we will only return material if you include a self-addressed envelope with the appropriate postage. Please send us duplicate copies only: do not send original copies of any kind, especially artwork.
Include your return address, and other contact information, including phone, fax, and/or e-mail. Please address all submissions to:
